Mortina Akvo (Agua de Muerto) was performed at Titeretada Puppet Festival 2018 after Hurricane María. The piece follows the story of a bunny that gets struck by lightning and dies during a powerful storm. It is resurrected after the characters of Light and Darkness perform an alchemy ritual which includes as a binding agent the “dead’s water”, which in our world, in the mountains of Trujillo Alto in Puerto Rico, some individuals are believed to go at night at the cemetery of the town to collect the water that falls into the graves. They are believed to use that water for ritual purposes and even do potions with it. Both Light and Darkness bring back to life the bunny into a new body full of colors and bursting rainbow lights around, as they tell the tale of the hurricane with a cantastoria using only electronic sounds.
